Job Title: Customer Service Representative

Department: Sales

General Function

Utilizes excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills in daily contact with customers.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Category Manager IV/Customer Service Supervisor

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

* Reports to work when scheduled and on time. Adheres to company policies and departmental guidelines.


* Contacts assigned customers and sells products by scheduled time. Reviews orders and suggests substitutions for out-of-stock products. Verifies orders for accuracy, checks ship date, price and issues credits as needed.


* Promotes sales of click-n-send and holiday items, directors meeting deals and other sales opportunities.


* Answers "immediate customer service" and "hot line" calls.


* Sells and manages short code list daily.


* Performs excellent customer service to the Hy-Vee stores including but not limited to; researches customer's questions and concerns, addresses problems and follows up with customer in a timely manner.


* Educates customers on technology available to assist in ordering (Ivoice, direct connect, click-n-send).


* Maintains communication with Customer Consultants and provides assistance as needed.


* Communicates with Purchasing Department on new products and other customer needs.


* Communicates with Transportation Department on special drops for unscheduled deliveries and holiday delivery schedule changes.


* Participates in weekly and departmental sales meetings.


* Other duties as assigned by management.



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

* Excellent telephone etiquette, friendly disposition, and verbal communication skills presenting a positive representation of PDI to inside and outside customers requiring excellent customer service skills.


* Ability to handle objectives, research and resolve problems, which requires strong organizational, attention to detail and follow through skills.


* Must be willing to go the extra mile in accommodating the customers in a friendly, helpful manner.


* Good computer, order entry, 10-key, office and math skills.



Education and Experience:

* High school education required


* 1-3 years' experience in sales or related area of products preferred. Retail grocery experience preferred



Physical Requirements:

This job is considered a semi-skilled position which is sedentary to light in nature according to the Department of Labor Weight Classifications with primary functions being sedentary in nature. Frequent to constant handling of papers, listening, talking, reading, writing, and computer keyboard requiring finger dexterity.

Working Conditions:

* Office environment (climate controlled)


* Busy atmosphere with constant interruptions


* May be required to go across warehouse dock to warehouse office while encountering cold temperatures (35 -) and warehouse conditions



Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Office telephone system and headset, calculator, fax machine, photocopier, Microsoft Office, A/S400, Direct Store Connect.
